I’ve been following GeneaPress for quite some time. And it is well worth my time to read.
What is GeneaPress?
GeneaPress, as the name implies, is a genealogy-focused blog all about news and information related to the “genealogy industry.” By industry I mean all things related to genealogy and not just genealogy business. It’s kind of like the AP (Associated Press) of genealogy. They only send out emails (I subscribe by email but there are other methods to follow it.) as the need arises and not everyday with something, which may be fluff or filler. One email may have one or more news articles depending on the volume of news. The articles have quick and easy to read headlines so in seconds the reader knows if there is something worth further investigation.
What kind of news is available at GeneaPress?
There are lots of different news-type articles, typically genealogy-related press releases generated by some organization wanting to get the word out about a product, service, or event. You’ll find the following:
- Conference Announcements – registration deadlines, new upcoming events
- Book Releases
- New Product Announcements
- Society or Organization News
- New Additions to a Website
- New Genealogy Collections
- Genealogy Society News
- People in the News
Really, it is about anything and everything related to genealogy.
Aside from the big players in the genealogy world (Ancestry, Family Search, etc.) you hear about news and events from far flung organizations that you would otherwise never known about.
Bonus! If you happen to be part of an organization that has news such as the above, this is a golden opportunity – free opportunity – to submit your news and get the word out about your events or products. Just submit your press release to firstname.lastname@example.org.
