Yesterday I shared with you my quest for a specific yearbook – one from Bishop Miege High School for the year 1959 and / or 1960. In that post, I shared the tour of repositories I investigated by way of example and to offer suggestions from which you might find some benefit.
This morning at 7:15 a.m., I received the most delightful email from “Matthew P.” with the following information:
High Schools – Public & PrivateBarstow
1913, 1915, 1917, 1922, 1924, 1928, 1951-1952, 1956, 1964, 1977
1969, 1972-1973, 1980, 1981, 1983
Ta da! The Kansas City Missouri Public Library has a “Missouri Valley Room,” which holds local, regional archives – INCLUDING a YEARBOOK COLLECTION.I’d never even thought to look there. It just never occurred to me. Well, now we all know to not overlook our local libraries for local treasures.
My personal quest ended with a fast trip to the library over my lunch hour. Lucinda, the archivist, was most helpful. She called to “the back” and a nice person brought the book up and in minutes I found what I was looking for. Success!
Thank you to everyone who helped in this quest. Because the story is not mine alone, I don’t feel comfortable sharing the details here, but know that this has been one of the best “genealogy days” I’ve ever had.
May you find great treasures on your journey!
